SUMMARY:Girona (Gerona) road cycling camp
DESCRIPTION:Many pro-cyclists live in Girona and use it as a cycle training base due to its climate\, varied terrain and excellent road quality.  \nIn April 2023\, Alpine Cadence will return to the Girona area for a another week of epic riding.  \nDaily rides will include beautiful coastal riding along the Mediterranean\, challenging climbs like the infamous Rocacorba and rides through the volcanic area of the Garrotxa. \nAlthough riding is always the priority on our trips\, Girona is a gastronomic and cultural delight. Riders will have plenty of time to enjoy this vibrant and exciting town. \nWe’ll help organise different restaurants for you each evening so that the food is as much to look forward to as the road cycling. \nOur hotel in the old town of Girona will provide an atmospheric start and finish point for our daily adventures. \n\nCycling in Girona\, the schedule\nSaturday\, April 29\nArrival day – we pick up from Girona airport or Barcelona airport. \n\nGirona Airport is 15 minutes (airport transfer included).\nBarcelona is just over an hour away (small additional cost).\n\nWe can collect you and get you settled into the hotel in the centre of Girona.  \nSix days of road cycling\nOver the next six days\, we’ll ride a selection of loops from Girona that will be between 100km and 150km in length.  \nThere will be significant climbs each day\, although much of the riding will be on flat and rolling terrain. \nFive of the days will have full vehicle support.  \nOne of the days\, most likely in the middle of the week\, will be considerably easier/shorter to allow some recovery during the week.  \nRides will generally begin at around 9.00; there will be a coffee/snack stop. \nWe aim to complete rides by mid-afternoon to allow recovery and relaxing time.  \nEach evening there will be an informal lecture/briefing session where there will be an opportunity to pick the brains of your coach and guide. We also go over the route for the next day. \nThe Girona road cycling tour will include  \n\nthe incredible coastal section between St Feliu de Guixols and Tossa de Mar\, \nthe classic local climbs of Rocacorba and Els Angels\, \nthe magnificent climb to Mare de Deu del Mont and \nthe stunning promontory on which sits El Sanctuari del Far.\n\n\nAlpine Cadence Club Championships\nFor 2023 we’ll again be adding a bit of spice and fun into our week in Girona by integrating a friendly and inclusive ‘Club Championships’ into the week.  \nThere will be three carefully chosen Strava segments that will be part of our usual rides\, the results from these segments will contribute to overall winners for men\, ladies and age categories.  \nThe whole idea of this is to add a bit of fun and competition without compromising or adapting the existing format.  \nWe anticipate some riders relishing the chance to go for it a bit and push themselves and others being quite content to ride the route without any pressure to perform.  \nWe anticipate this extra element being a fun addition to the week.  \nSaturday\, May 6th\nDeparture day.\nAlpine Cadence takes you and your bike to Girona airport or Barcelona airport for flights departing midday or later. \n\nWho will enjoy this trip?\nThis centre-based trip will suit a wide range of riders.  \nRiding comfortably in a group environment will be beneficial. There will be a considerable amount of cycling in groups outside of the more significant climbs.   \nNumber permitting\, we will run two groups for different levels. Both groups will benefit from vehicle support. \nThe Girona Cycle Camp is a trip that will suit non-cycling partners too. There is a lot to see and do in the area. \nContact us to find a price for a non-rider on this trip. \n\nWhat we include\n\nBed and breakfast\, twin\, shared accommodation in a cycle-friendly 3-star hotel centrally positioned in Girona. \nSingle occupancy is available at extra cost.\nTransfers to and from Girona Airport and Barcelona Airport transfer are available at extra cost.\nSix guided rides.\nFull vehicle support is present for five days.\nInformal evening lectures from a qualified coach.\n\n\nWhat we don’t include\n\nTravel insurance.\nDrinks\, snacks and evening meals.\nFlights to and from Girona/Barcelona.\n\nContact us to learn more or to book.  \n\nIMPORTANT\nWe include transfers to and from Girona airport in the package.
